A Weekend in Valpo

I'm forever in awe of how friendly and fun quilters are. This past weekend I was a vendor at the String Along Quilt Guild Quilt Show in Valparaiso, Indiana, at the Porter County Expo Center. As always, I had a wonderful time meeting and talking to quilters. The quilts displayed in the show didn't disappoint either--they were fabulous!

This was the first time that Quilter's of the Bunco Club: Phree & Rosa was available at a show. With two books out, I was twice as busy as before...but it was all good! So many quilters are also readers, and as one woman said to me, "We quilters do love our series!"

You know me, I'm all about the photos so let's take a look:

Starting with the booth--I had one of the best spots! Everyone was given three tables. I loved having so much space to spread out my wares, especially since Book 2 is now out.

Some great quilts were on display:
This quilt was voted "Best in Show" and it was spectacular (check out the details below).

All I can say is WOW!

Beautiful antique quilt (detail below).

You didn't think I'd post without a 30s repro quilt in the mix, did you?!

Lovely contemporary quilt

How nice that a few of my good friends showed up!

Winnie, me, Geri ... catch-up time!

Meeting more DeWitts--How fun was this!
A quilter came up to the booth and we were chatting with her. She asked if we were related to a Bob DeWitt. My sister and I told her our brother was Bob DeWitt. She then said her daughter was married to Bob DeWitt. We got a good laugh out of it, but then the more we talked the many coincidences became downright weird. The twin daughters are planning on heading to college to study veterinary medicine...my sister has been a vet tech for 35+ years. Their uncle's name is George DeWitt...our Grandpa was George DeWitt. Tina has an interest in forensics...my sister was a crime scene investigator for a while. They have traced their DeWitt's back to the Mayflower...and we have traced our Snyder side of the family back to the Mayflower. It went on and on with several other connections--anytime one of us said something, the others would say, "We do, too!" We decided somewhere along the line we HAVE to be related--so, HI to my newly found family members =)
Me, (sister) Nolly, Tina, Ashley, Allison...All of us DeWitt's!
A BIG SURPRISE greeted us Sunday morning in the Times of NW Indiana: Nolly and I made the front page of the Local section! We didn't even realize anyone had taken our picture.

I seriously could not have kept up if it wasn't for my sister and helper, Nolly.
Thanks for your help =)

Thanks to all of the String Along Quilters who worked so hard to make this such a wonderful show. I enjoyed meeting every single person who stopped by my booth--Thank you.
